Planting Green: Potential Benefits and Disadvantages of Planting Corn into Live Cereal Rye Cover Crop
نویسندگان
چکیده
Although cover crops are typically terminated 2–4 weeks prior to cash crop planting, there may be situations where late-burndown or planting into a living (planting green) necessary even beneficial. This experiment investigated the effect of termination date on corn (Zea mays) yield and presence beneficial insects. Three different dates were tested: 4 (brown), 7 14 days (green-brown), at (green), as well check treatment with no planted. The site year by interaction was significant for biomass thus each analyzed separately. Preliminary results sentinel prey assessments indicate difference in insects systems. However, decrease treatments planted green both 2021 2022. Cover yields 2022 50% lower than those observed 2021. control brown resulted significantly higher green-brown

Influence of Seeding Ratio, Planting Date, and Termination Date on Rye-Hairy Vetch Cover Crop Mixture Performance under Organic Management
Cover crop benefits include nitrogen accumulation and retention, weed suppression, organic matter maintenance, and reduced erosion. Organic farmers need region-specific information on winter cover crop performance to effectively integrate cover crops into their crop rotations. Our research objective was to compare cover crop seeding mixtures, planting dates, and termination dates on performance...
متن کاملGreen “planting” nanostructured single crystal silver
Design and fabrication of noble metal nanocrystals have attracted much attention due to their wide applications in catalysis, optical detection and biomedicine. However, it still remains a challenge to scale-up the production in a high-quality, low-cost and eco-friendly way. Here we show that single crystalline silver nanobelts grow abundantly on the surface of biomass-derived monolithic activa...
متن کامل2016 Butternut Squash Cereal Rye Cover Crop Tillage and Fertility Trial
A cover crop management trial in butternut squash was planted at the Forgotten Harvest Ore Creek Farm (9153 Major Rd, Fenton, MI 438430) in a Miami loam soil with a 02% grade. The objectives were to determine how yields following a cereal rye cover crop were affected by three tillage systems and three at-plant fertilizer treatments in a split-plot Randomized Complete Block Design with four repl...
متن کاملCompanion Crop Recommendations for Planting with Black Walnuts
The concept of planting trees in widely spaced rows and growing cash crops in the alleyways is a special form of agroforestry called alley cropping. To be successful, the companion crop’s physiological requirements (i.e., light, water and nutrients) must be accommodated by the tree. Black walnut’s (Juglans nigra L.) foliage and root system are unique and readily adapted to the growth of compani...
